{"id":83470,"date":"2026-02-10T11:34:44","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T14:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.fischer.uy\/?p=83470"},"modified":"2026-02-10T11:37:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T14:37:32","slug":"uruguay-patent-office-cancels-early-patent-resolution-procedure-prp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fischer.uy\/?p=83470","title":{"rendered":"URUGUAY | PATENT OFFICE CANCELS EARLY PATENT RESOLUTION PROCEDURE (PRP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_single_image media=&#8221;83460&#8243; media_width_percent=&#8221;100&#8243; uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;122993&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;168769&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Patent Office cancels early Patent Resolution Procedure (PRP).<\/span><\/h2>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">We inform you that on February 6, 2026, the Uruguayan Patent Office decided to cancel the Early Patent Resolution Procedure (&#8220;PRP&#8221;) program.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On February 6, 2026, the Patent Office issued Resolution No. 02\/026, by which it cancels the PRP procedure that had been established by Resolution No. 11\/2021 as a way to expedite the examination of patent applications, through the use of substantive examination results issued by other patent offices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution No. 11\/2021 had implemented an examination streamlining mechanism \u2013 PRP \u2013 based on the use of substantive examination results from other offices, with the aim of reducing processing times, improving efficiency, and providing greater legal certainty to users and third parties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Patent Office now points out that improvements in internal management have led to a significant reduction in processing times, and that Resolution No. 11\/2021 provided for the power to annul the procedure.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Therefore, Resolution No. 02\/026 resolves as of February 6, 2026 to cancel the PRP procedure for accelerating the examination of patent applications.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those applications that had already been submitted under the PRP before the issuance of Resolution No. 02\/026 will continue their processing in that way until their conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Therefore, it will no longer be possible to expedite the examination of patent applications in Uruguay under the PRP procedure.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notwithstanding the foregoing, we would like to inform you that Uruguay maintains the following programs to accelerate the examination of patent applications:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>PROSUR-PROSUL regional PPH<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (from December 1, 2022, for five years) with Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Colombia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>PPH bilateral agreement with Sweden (PRV):<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in force from June 1, 2023, for three years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>PPH bilateral agreement with the United Kingdom (UKIPO):<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in force from June 1, 2024, for three years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;556387&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Our <strong>FISCHER Patent Team<\/strong> is at your disposal to expand the scope of regulatory modification, review specific cases and\/or adjust patent prosecution strategies in Uruguay.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_single_image media=&#8221;83429&#8243; media_width_percent=&#8221;100&#8243; uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;122993&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_single_image media=&#8221;83460&#8243; media_width_percent=&#8221;100&#8243; uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;122993&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;168769&#8243;] Patent Office cancels early Patent Resolution Procedure (PRP).
